The sector develops investigations on the history and theory of evolutionary doctrine, the history of plants physiology, ecology, sea-biology, zoology and genetics. Considerable amount of work in the sector is dedicated to the social and social-political history of science in Russia: relation of biology and philosophy, biology and power, medical-biological researches during the “cold war”, censorship in soviet science.
