The sector carries out researches on the history of the Academy of Sciences on the whole and its components, international links of the Academy, its expeditionary activity, the history of education in Russia and the role of the Academy in its development, the history of science organization in St. Petersburg. It also investigates the history of mathematics, astronomy and geography, the history of medicine and medical organizations and the history of Russian-German scientific links.
